2020 - A year of challenges
In 2020, the corona pandemic largely brought the world and all economic activity to a standstill. Tourism was also badly affected by the occurrence of the pandemic. At TUI Cruises, developments were looked at with a watchful eye on the possibilities for offering trips while still maintaining the highest level of safety for international employees and guests.
A strong partnership
With this goal in mind, TUI Cruises began working with HAKOH GmbH - with the Health & Care division, especially. As a distribution partner of the Hamburg immunobiology company MEDsan, HAKOH proved to be more than just a supportive partner in the procurement of certified and BfArm-listed SARS-CoV-2 tests. HAKOH also acted as a logistics partner for the planning and implementation of comprehensive COVID-19 tests at the terminals of the Hamburg-Steinwerder Cruise Center, as well as at the Ostseekai City Port in Kiel. In close cooperation with the German Red Cross and the ship's doctors who were responsible, the HAKOH Health & Care team developed an efficient and reliable testing concept for testing all employees after going ashore and all passengers before boarding the ships - so as to prevent a chain of SARS-CoV- 2 virus infections. As well, in the area of medical supplies and equipment, HAKOH was active. Up until the second lockdown, that began in the winter of 2020, HAKOH Health & Care's two locations were able to test approximately 10,000 passengers and employees.
